Plastic bags to be banned

Oil and vinegar seller Manfred Meeuwig has taken the initiative to make the Haarlemmerbuurt shopping area free of plastic bags, the Haarlemmerbuurt weblog reports. There are also plans to develop a environmentally-friendly shopping bag.

The initiative was inspired by the town of Modbury in Devon, England, which claims to be the first town in Europe to be completely free of plastic bags. Other towns have followed suit.
