Election event on Monday for internationals in Amsterdam

17 March 2018

Green party GroenLinks is hosting a Rock the Vote event on Monday, where party leaders of GroenLinks, PvdA, SP, D66 and VVD will pitch their ideas for Amsterdam. An estimated 89,000 internationals are eligible to vote in the local election next Wednesday.

It has been argued that internationals are a neglected group in the election campaigns, despite the considerable number of votes they represent. Since, more efforts have been made to reach English-language voters. Earlier this month, D66 organised an event for internationals. BIJ1, D66, FvD, GroenLinks, PvdA, PvdD and VVD have made information available in English.

News from Amsterdam has created an English version of its voting advice app. The app won’t tell you what to vote, but it will give you an idea of the position of local political parties on a range of issues. It is unique in being based not on promises parties make during the election campaign, but on how they actually voted on proposals in the city council.
