Webmaster wanted for questioning

20 June 2008 - The police want to question the webmaster of the right-wing populist weblog Hoeiboei. A politician has reported the website to the police because it would contain slanderous texts.

The webmaster has been asked to report to the Surinameplein police station today at 6 pm. On her weblog, she has indicated that she sees no reason to do so.   A police spokesperson said she has been invited to give her side of the story. The public prosecutor will now decide whether she will be arrested and prosecuted.

At the Hoeiboei weblog, there is speculation that the complaint against the website may have been filed by a politician in de Baarsjes. In the past, there has been a conflict between Hoeiboei and the discrimination complaints office in de Baarsjes. The politician could not be reached this afternoon.

Last month, the anti-Islam cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot was detained by the police for 30 hours because he is suspected of discrimination, a treatment various politicians called excessive. The Hoeiboei case is unrelated and does not concern cartoons, the police spokesperson said.
